What’s the difference between a Dentist and an Endodontist?

Dr. Atabakhsh and other endodontists like him are dentists. However, less than three percent of dentists are endodontists*.

What is the difference between a dentist and endodontist? Why were you referred out from your primary dental care clinic for a root canal? Why choose Dr. Atabakhsh for your procedure?

These are great questions.

The reason you are referred to an endodontist is because they specialists with much more training after dental school.

For example your endodontist, Dr. Atabakhsh, continued on to a General Practice Residency at a Californian VA Hospital after finishing dental school. He then practiced as a general dentist before attending Temple University School of Dentistry for a two year residency in Endodontics.

The additional training is important because it educates doctors in performing root canals, diagnosing tooth pain and performing other procedures on the interior of the tooth.

Endodontists are specialist in saving a diseased or injured tooth and they work with your dentist to assist in your dental health. That’s why it is so important to follow up regarding your appointment with a clinic like Gentle Endodontics of Kent. We can help save your tooth and save your gorgeous, natural smile.
