Meet Dr. Atabakhsh
Vahid A. Atabakhsh, DDS
Practice Limited to Endodontics
Dr. Atabakhsh grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. He went from high school to UCLA as an undergraduate and received his bachelor of science degree in Biochemistry in 1996. He continued on there to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the prestigious UCLA School of Dentistry in 2000. During his four years of dental school, he received over thirty exceptional performance awards for outstanding performance and clinical excellence.
Upon finishing dental school among the top of his class, Dr. Atabakhsh continued on to a one year General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in West Los Angeles. This gave him valuable experience in treating medically compromised patients and performing complex dental surgeries, including some in the hospital operating rooms.
From 2001 until 2003, Dr. Atabakhsh practiced as a general dentist in Southern California. This has helped him be a better endodontist by understanding proper case selection and taking a team approach to treatment planning with the general dentist and other dental specialties.
Dr. Atabakhsh attended Temple University School of Dentistry from 2003 to 2005 where he completed a two year residency in Endodontics. His many great instructors there gave him a solid foundation for clinical and didactic excellence. One of his research projects was titled “The antimicrobial efficacy of erbium, chromium, yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet laser with radial emitting tips on root canal dentin walls infected with Enterococcus faecalis”. He was selected by Temple University’s Endodontics Department to present his research at the International Association of Dental Research in Brisbane, Australia in 2006.
After graduation, Dr. Atabakhsh practiced at Endodontic Associates in Maryland with eight other endodontists for four years until he moved to Washington State in 2009. This interaction with other endodontists helped him utilize their collective experiences and make them his own.
Since then, he has successfully performed thousands of complex endodontic cases and become the endodontist of choice for hundreds of dentists in the area. Many of his patients tell him that it was the easiest root canal and best experience they’ve had. His referring dentists tell him these are some of the best results they’ve seen and they ask him to share his techniques with them, which he loves to do. Dr. Atabakhsh loves to tell them that “It gets easier after a few thousand.”
Dr. Atabakhsh is married to his lovely wife, Maedeh, and loves spending time with her and with his seven year old son, Yusef and his two year old daughter Yasmin who love to have him play with and read to them. He also loves traveling and learning about different peoples and cultures and has traveled extensively. He loves the outdoors as well as going hiking and biking. He has an older brother who is a periodontist and a younger brother who is in a combined oral and maxillofacial surgery/MD residency, both of whom live in Houston, Texas.
